When it comes to health and wellness, physical health is the first thing that comes to mind. However, we are not told much about mental health. However, this includes our psychological, social, emotional well-being and affects our way of thinking, feeling and acting on a daily basis...
- Physiological effects -
When we suffer physically, our professional and family life can be affected, as can our state of mind (anxiety, depression, etc.).
In parallel, mental health disorders can lead to a deterioration in our physical health : when we suffer from anxiety and/or depression, we find it difficult to relax, rest (recharge), we put our immune system on tough test.
- Financial effects -
Mental health disorders can affect our productivity. The World Health Organization has previously reported that nearly half of the world's leading causes of disability are caused by mental health disorders.
In general, those affected take frequent medical time off and even while remaining active, these people cannot/no longer be fully focused due to lack of energy and the invasion of resentments and parasitic thoughts.
But corporate portfolios are not the only financial aspects touched, treating even minor disorders comes at a price, and we are not equal in the world when it comes to mutual involvement in this area.
- Effects on the entourage –
All-round relatives also suffer the consequences : financial strains, job losses, stress, etc. For anyone who wants to be cured or to move forward, it is advisable to seek help from a mental health professional.
Children of people with or whom have suffered from mental health disorders tend to be at increased risk for abuse, neglect, various emotional and behavioural ailments, or even developing similar ailments. If they are left untreated, the cycle of propagation will continue.
- Effects on mortality –
A study published in the « British Medical Journal » in 2012 found that people with chronic mental disorders, such as depression and anxiety, account for a high rate of death related to heart disease.
Even the most minor ailments can have serious consequences and influence certain aspects of our life. Even more insidious, the basis of the disorders that can become major, start with little things such as feeling tired, worried, and become over time a feeling of emptiness, lack of energy, depression and even internal panic in the face of the slightest thing that differs from our habits.
We must take care of ourselves :
Conclusions
If we focus exclusively on our physiological health and ignore our psychological state, we will never find our balance and well-being.
There is no shame in seeing a mental health professional, just as there is no shame in putting a cast on a broken leg to help it heal as well as possible. So let us remember that if we feel physically weak, it will impact our mind and if we feel mentally weak, it will impact our physical stamina.
